Africa's Premiere Entertainment Portal Featuring African Music, Film, Style and Books Launches at Jamati.com
Washington, D.C. (PRWEB) September 16, 2007 -- Fans of the African arts, including music, film, style, sports and books, have a new home on the Web with the launch of www.Jamati.com, Africa's premiere entertainment portal launched on September 12. The site, available in both English and French versions, aims to help fill a current void created by the lack of many publications catering solely to the diverse African entertainment scene.
What sets Jamati.com apart from other entertainment publications is that it draws its content from the whole spectrum of Africa. The site's contributors are uniquely in tune with the African Diaspora community that has grown from just a handful of students migrating from Africa to Europe and the US in the 1960's to millions in the 21st century. These first and second generation Africans are now making their mark in music, film, fashion and sports.
"We realized that there was a myriad of African society magazines popping up in several markets around the globe," says Jamati.com founder and CEO, Elias Mageto. "What we haven't seen a lot of are publications that cater solely to the diverse African entertainment scene. Publications currently out there tend to focus on country- and region-specific content. As a result, we decided it was time for the release of a Pan-African publication dedicated to entertainment; hence the launch of Jamati.com. Even though Africa has many borders, cultures, and languages, African and non-African businesses alike are seeing the value of a larger Pan-African market and growth in entertainment industries world wide. Jamati.com is poised to be the resource for this market growth, and we hope to be the catalyst for a lot of up and coming entertainers, much like Black Entertainment Television (BET) is for black Artists in the United States."
An example of an artist that readers might find featured on Jamati.com is DJ-turned-actor, Idris Elba, whose parents are from Sierra Leone and Ghana. Other examples are Sudanese supermodel Alex Wek and couture designer Amsale from Ethiopia. At Jamati.com there is an intrinsic understanding of Africa and Diaspora Africa, which includes first and second generation Africans who have had the opportunity to live in the Diaspora but still maintain grounded in their African roots. The site will endeavor to convey that understanding and appreciation to its readers.
Jamati.com's platform will be host to an interactive calendar of events for visitors and promoters alike to view and post events from around the world relevant to African entertainment. The site also has columnists that write about everything from current events to controversial issues. Visitors to the site will have an opportunity to interact with writers and other users by commenting on articles, providing reviews on various issues, stories and more.
