The Chagrin of the RIAA Adopted as Business Model for New Rock Music Entertainment Company
New York, NY (PRWEB) March 20, 2008 -- xxx.MegaPlatinum.net is now home to the world's first legitimate peer-to-peer mp3 filesharing network dedicated to the niche market of high energy rock and punk music. MegaPlatinum Entertainment LLC launched the "Spread This!" bittorrent network in an effort to aid the underground rock and punk community in utilizing new technologies available to them. "We are really enjoying the ability to embrace the punk aesthetics of 'Do it yourself' and 'Call for Change' - our aesthetics - with this system," says Nick Vivid, CEO. "There's an amazing amount of chaos in the record industry. This total deconstruction of the system is exactly what helps us thrive. Our bands feed off of that energy, just as we do."
File sharing is a popular, yet highly controversial method of mp3 music distribution. Services such as the Pirate Bay, which have been under scrutiny for providing access to illegal mp3 music downloads, have been promoting the use of the bittorrent protocol for several years. "It's really just a solid piece of software and people find it easy to use", says Nick. However, the record industry is not singing the praises of bittorrent. "The record industry tries to stop it and they can't. They don't like the fact that it works as well as it does and that so many people enjoy using it to share information with each other. They also refuse to control and monetize it, though those are two very real opportunities for them. For some reason, they would rather sue random college kids and make enemies out of the record buying public than search for real solutions to the problems that we all face in the new digital age."
The record industry has implemented scare tactics such as lawsuits in an attempt to thwart online file sharing, while also targeting the content hosted on sites such as Mediafire and Rapidshare, two of the world's most popular online file hosting services.
Recently, legitimate mp3 music posted to such sites by MegaPlatinum was removed by requests sent by the RIAA and IFPI to the hosting services. The organizations claimed the presence of such material online violated the rights of copyright holders. "But we were the copyright holders and we wanted it there," Nick continues. "In my eyes, that was the call to take serious action and push the envelope even more towards this direction. Focusing a majority of our company's resources in this area will help not only in terms of giving us the proper ability to protect our assets and interests; it will also help us in terms of educating the public about their consumer rights."
According to Nick, the reaction from the public to the "Spread This!' campaign has been universally positive. "Our demonstrations at SXSW went over great. And everyone else who has seen it, including the first batch of bands we signed up for the service, are very excited about it. We are determined more than ever to prove that this technology can drive business and build brands."
About MegaPlatinum: MegaPlatinum Entertainment LLC is a new media entertainment company. They are the exclusive music content provider for Stalefish Media (http://www.stalefishmedia.com), a company that represents clients in the world of action sports and entertainment. MegaPlatinum is also recording a live album and DVD this summer featuring 16 bands at Brooklyn NY's most notorious rock and punk concert venue, The Trash Bar.
For more information, contact MegaPlatinum's website at http://xxx.megaplatinum.net. The choice of xxx instead of www as the front of the website URL was, according to Nick, "a pun pointing out that we are one step closer to the end of the record industry."
