Words and Music Concert and CD Release Party

(PRWEB) April 24, 2008 -- It's Finals Week again for Tri-C's Recording Arts & Technology (RAT). On Friday, May 2 at the Metro Campus Main Stage Theater, students from concert promotion, technical production, record label and live sound reinforcement classes will join forces to present four N.E. Ohio master songwriters doing what they do best, sing and play their own songs. Showtime is 7:30pm.

Featured artists are acclaimed songwriter/producer Don Dixon (R.E.M, Joe Cocker, Hootie & the Blowfish), indie rock stalwart Doug Gillard (Guided by Voices, Cobra Verde, Death of Samantha, Gem), Cleveland reggae man Carlos Jones (P.L.U.S. Band, First Light, ITAL) and RAT's own Tommy Wiggins. Each artist will perform an intimate set of music in the acoustically superb Metro Campus Main Stage theater. Tickets are $10.00. A VIP Artist "Meet & Greet" will immediately follow the concert.

This "Words & Music" Concert also celebrates the release "Live From Cleveland, The Crooked River Groove/WiFi Café Sampler, Volume One". The Sampler is the fifteenth CD release from Tri-C's own CRG Records. Joining Don Dixon and Carlos Jones cuts are tracks by a "who's who" of regional artists, including Armstrong Bearcat Band, Alex Bevan, Mr. Downchild, Steve Jochum, Xela, E&J's Ghetto Wisdom, Zach, Phatty Banks Crew, Roberto Ocascio's Latin Jazz Project, Bob Frank from Blue Lunch, Cami & Cora and the incomparable Prayer Warriors. The CD will be available at the concert and at http://www.crookedrivergroove.com.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for the Concert Promotion class and the Indie Record Label class to work together to stage an event where the musical synergies all converge" says John Latimer, music business instructor. "We're working with the Concert Production class and also the Location Recording class here at Tri-C. It's a win-win-win for the fans, artists and students."

General admission tickets are $10 and available at Tri-C Metro Student Activities and at the door or for further information, including the special VIP Artist Meet & Greet" call the RAT Hotline (216) 987-3277.

Opened in 1963, Cuyahoga Community College is Ohio's first community college and now the state's largest, serving 55,000 students each year. More than 700,000 county residents have come through Tri-C's doors. The college offers two-year associate degrees, certificate programs, and the first two years of a baccalaureate degree. The curriculum includes over 1,600 credit courses in more than 130 career, certificate and university transfer programs.
